The people of Delta State and its environs will soon have the avenue to make use of the rich resources of the National Library of Nigeria.
The Chief Executive Officer of the National Library, Prof. Chinwe Anunobi made this known when she visited the state to finalize arrangements for the establishment of a branch of the apex library in the state.
While praising the state government for the massive infrastructural development in the state, Prof. Anunobi stated that the National Library of Nigeria is mandated by law to set up branches in all the states of the federation. This mandate according to her, is yet to be executed in Zamfara, Kebbi, Anambra and Delta states. She applauded the state government for the provision of a temporary office accommodation which will take off in no distant time.
Meanwhile, the Honourable Commissioner for Higher Education, Dr. Kingsley Ashibogwu Eze expressed gratitude to the National Librarian and her team for the visit and their good intentions of contributing to the educational development of the state through the establishment of a branch in the state. The Hon. Commissioner assured his guest that renovation will commence shortly, at the temporary office while promising to start the process to secure land for a permanent office structure which according to him will be achieved before the expiration of governor Okowa's administration.
He hinted that the Director of Delta State Library Board, Mrs Rosemary Eboh has been at the forefront of ensuring the presence of the apex library in the state.
The National Librarian and her team was taken round the premises of the temporary office which has been provided by the state government.Â
