The National Librarian and Chief Executive Officer of the National Library of Nigeria, Prof. Chinwe Veronica Anunobi, has tasked the newly admitted students into the National Diploma of the Centre for Advance Library and Information Management, CALIM, Enugu, to capitalize on the modern technologies and ICT facilities provided by the Institution to aid their learning and tackle technological deficiencies.The National Librarian and Chief Executive Officer of the National Library of Nigeria, Prof. Chinwe Veronica Anunobi, has tasked the newly admitted students into the National Diploma of the Centre for Advance Library and Information Management, CALIM, Enugu, to capitalize on the modern technologies and ICT facilities provided by the Institution to aid their learning and tackle technological deficiencies.
The National Librarian who gave the advice during the Maiden matriculation ceremony of the institution said that modern infrastructure and equipment have been provided for the students to use in classrooms, and library, stressing that the conducive environment is to make their stay on campus rewarding, comfortable and unforgettable.
Professor Anunobi further charged the students to be studious as the pioneer students to the Centre, which has been established by the National Library of Nigeria.
While congratulating the students for their successful performance in the Universal Tertiary Matriculation Examination which earned them admission into the Centre, Prof. Anunobi expressed belief that God will use the school to nurture their growth and development in all facets of life.
She further counselled the new students that education is not only about acquiring knowledge and skills, but it also prepares students for life. According to her, the lessons you learn in the classroom will serve you well in the future, whether you go on to acquire additional qualifications, or remain within the workforce of your organization's library.
As you begin this new phase in your academic life, I encourage you to approach your studies with seriousness and determination. This means that you should believe that your abilities can be developed through hard work and perseverance. ln order to support your academic success, we have a willing faculty who are dedicated to imparting their knowledge to you. We are committed assisting each of you develop into a responsible and well-rounded individual as you pursue your potentials goals, Prof. Anunobi said.
Earlier in his welcome address by the Chairman of the ceremony, Dr. Egor Hikarofem Ise, from the Federal Co-operative College, Oji-River Enugu State, challenged the students to focus on their academic journey and be creditable ambassadors of their home and the institution. As your begins this new phase of your life, l urge you to be focused, disciplined and diligent in your studies. Remember, success does not come on a platter of gold; it reguires hardwork, determination and perseverance.
Also in his matriculation lecture, Dr. lnnocent Eze urged the students to attend regular lecturers and keep up to date with assignments which form part of their examinations.
He further said to achieve and attain this height of excellence in character and in learning, this institution will maintain zero tolerance for cult activities and other anti-social behaviours. It is not a society of rascals or a hub for acts of prostitution. It is still an enviable virtue for the female folk and even the male, to dress modestly and reasonably.
One of the newly admitted students, Emmanuel Burrus said he was impressed with the conducive environment on campus and he will not disappoint his parents.Â
The Centre for Advanced Library and Information Management (CALIM), is a training institute owned by the National Library of Nigeria. The Centre has accreditation from the National Board for Technical Education to offer and award National Diploma courses in librarianship. The Centre also has a JAMB accredited CBT as well as fully equipped conference halls that are available for use by other interested organisations
