The Executive Governor of Bauchi State Government, His Excellency Senator (Dr) Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed CON has stated that his administration is out to promote education through the establishment of public libraries. This will ensure that citizens have free access to information resources to improve their lives. A special need session was also established at the state library to cater for the people with disability, ensuring equal access to information.
He stated this at the 6th Annual Conference of the National Librarian with the Chairmen and Directors of the state public libraries which was held at Sulgad Majestic Hotel Bauchi with the theme: Public Libraries: Gateway to Sustainable Development.
Addressing the conference, the National Librarian and Chief Executive Officer of the National Library of Nigeria, Prof. Chinwe Anunobi highlighted that the conference was conveyed with a view to brainstorm, explore, collaborate and take collective action towards a brighter future for the nation through the unique literacy and developmental rendition of the public library system. She noted that Nigeria's public libraries are faced with myriads of problems, which requires urgent attention. She therefore called on all to salvage the situation by improving investment in the public libraries in Nigeria.
Meanwhile, a Distinguished Award of Excellence in Library Development was conferred to the Executive Governor of Bauchi State in recognition of his immense contribution to education.
