The Centre for Advanced Library and Information Management (CALIM), held its second matriculation ceremony on Tuesday 30th April 2024. The matriculation which took place at the Centre in Enugu had the Provost, Prof. Chinwe Anunobi charged the students to be studious and embrace academic integrity by learning and understanding the rules of academic engagement as stipulated in the students handbook of the institution. She stated that in CALIM we pride ourselves in not only training students in academic work, but also in character, so that upon graduation the student is fully ready to be a responsible citizen who will contribute to nation building and national development, in a patriotic and result-oriented manner.
She further encouraged the students to emulate the example of their mentors and teachers in self-discipline, self-care and good mode of dressing. Also to exhibit the virtue of fidelity to their studies and work and general comportment so that they will not be found wanting at any time.
Prof. Anunobi finally urged the Matriculants to pursue their studies with diligence while making efforts to establish lasting friendly relationships with lecturers, administrators and fellow students who came from diverse geopolitical and ethnic backgrounds with the common purpose of the pursuit of knowledge and acquisition of life skills.
Meanwhile, the keynote Speaker, Dr. Ijeoma Ibegbulam, Deputy University Librarian UNN, in her address informed the students that their journey in CALIM marks the beginning of an extraordinary chapter in their lives - a chapter filled with learning, growth and countless opportunities. She admonished them on how to make a success of their academic excellence, stressing that it is another phase of life for them; a moment where potential meets possibility and where dreams take shape through dedication and perseverance.Â
Dr. Ibegbulam highlighted three fundamental principles that could guide the students towards success which are: passion, purpose and persistence. She also advised the students to cultivate the spirit of curiosity and open-mindedness. She added that learning skills like information communication technology will help them in their academics and generally in life. Study your books as if your life depends on them and use your time effectively and efficiently.
The Director of Academic Planning, Ms Amaka Ojielo expressed her appreciation to all who laboured to make the event a huge success. She encouraged the students to take home all the advice given to them as that would help them build a solid foundation for success.
